Eric Christopher Black was a fine, full-voiced
Dr. Malatesta with a good sense of physical comedy.
(Mark J. Estren,
The Washington Post)
Eric Christopher Black made an impressive Belcore, lunging into romance at the slightest hint of feminine availability and pulling flowers from his tight strutting uniform. Black has a strong baritone voice and a very flexible face that twisted easily from assertive smugness to wounded vanity.
(Stephen Neal Dennis, All Arts Review)
Upcoming Performances
Baritone Eric Christopher Black created the role of Ronaldo Cabral in Later the Same Evening by John Musto
with the Maryland Opera Studio, garnering praise from Opera News who described
his singing as "strong" and his character as "florid." His
repertoire is quite diverse ranging from Baroque to 21st century pieces,
including Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Danilo (The Merry Widow), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte),
Belcore (L'elisir d'amore),
Ben (The Telephone), Maximillian (Candide), Falke (Die
Fledermaus), Montauciel (Le Déserteur), Pooh-Bah (The Mikado),
and various newly composed works. Concert
repertoire in his performance history is also diverse, including René Clausen's
a new Creation, Duruflé's Requiem, Schumann's Op. 39
Liederkreis, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, Barber's
Dover Beach, Vaughan Williams' Five Mystical Songs, and Ravel's
Don Quichotte à Dulcinée.
He has been invited to perform these roles and
solo concert pieces at many venues in
the US and abroad, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Kennedy
Center for the Performing Arts, The National Gallery of Art, The Washington Arts
Club, The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Teatro Duse in Asolo, Italy, The
Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, the Opera Theater of Lucca in Lucca,
